Abstract

Until a few years ago, it was commonly believed that corporatism was a historical malformation, exceptional and perverse, that only congealed in conditions of backwardness and authoritarian regimes. But from an updated theoretical perspective, it is legitimate to argue that the current "neo-corporatism" served to open channels of participation and is, strictly speaking, a key factor in the process of fundamental democratization. In Latin America, the end of the twentieth century seems to bring about the end of corporatism and there is a paradox that the cultists of the revival would have come to (re) discover corporatism and sift their democratic versions just at the moment when such alternatives they extinguish However, we must be cautious with the conjunctural impressions. It is not the first time that one dances on the tomb of corporativism - to the sound of the liberal scores - and after a while it reappears on stage, with a changing spirit. At the end of the '' century of corporatism '', with the ups and downs of the case and in a wide range of colorations, we went through an instance in which the silhouettes of a new corporate cycle can be outlined.
