Abstract

The article covers the reposilioning ofLatin America in the world economy as well as the impact of the processes of globalization on individual nations, in tenns of their public policies and socioeconomic development. Within this general cQntext the author exallÚnes problems of national sovereignty and citizenship within the new international order, neoc1assicaJ and neo-dependellCY hypotheses regarding ecollomic and social development, and also lhe evolution of public policies in a number of countries. FinalIy, the author provides an interpretative model for the variations found in each individual case from the viewpoint of domestic policy or by highlighting the inflllence ofthe polítical sphere .
