This article deals with the problem of the relationship between the government and the Uruguayan trade union movement (MSU) during the Colorado administration (1985-1989). The union movement developed a process of negative integration. While he accepted the limits of the system in practical terms, he maintained a radical rhetoric and identity. This integration model required certain contextual conditions, which are currently threatened by the new white administration and by changes in the political context, particularly with regard to the left of the spectrum. The limits of this integration model, and the question of what alternative, the MSU addresses, are some of the points that this document discusses.
