Abstract

After decades of accumulated theoretical and empirical work, research on Latin American politics has ceased to be mere descriptions of dysfunctional, pathological and even exotic phenomena, to move to hold solid agendas of influential comparative scope. Within the multiple lines of research, legislative studies have stood out as one of the most fruitful areas in their influence and academic rigor. In fact, in a survey between 2000 and 2010, Alemán (2013) counts a dozen original books and 88 research articles focused on Latin American legislatures; which, according to the author, contrast remarkably with the meager number of contributions tracked by Morgenstern, Negriy Pérez-Liñán (2009) during the previous decades. These works present an interesting variation in terms of themes, perspectives, methodological approaches, nationalities of the authors and publication languages, which illustrates an increasingly inclusive, plural and comparative sub-discipline
