Abstract

In this article, the author presents the new critique of Latin American presidentialism on three levels: theoretical, methodological and empirical. With a comparative approach, Thibaut discusses the debate on the question of the government regime that has occurred in four national cases: Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Its main conclusion is that such discussions have not given sufficient importance to factors such as the evolution of the party system.
