The five years prior to the June 1973 coup d'état constituted a moment of inflexion in the contemporary evolution of Uruguay. During these convulsive years, the perverse effects of the knotting of a set of critical factors that determined a radical mutation of the democratic coordinates of its state structure and the predominant patterns of integration in its civil society became evident in the country.
